Pacific Southwest District Educator of the Year and Finalist

Updated: Feb 27, 2023

"Even though my two daughters are in college now, they both learned to love reading when they were in your class and I’m so thankful for that." -Anonymous Parent, Shelly Surridge, 3rd Grade, Elementary Educator of the Year

Salem is blessed to have an incredible team of teachers who daily share Jesus' love with our students while simultaneously providing them with an exceptional education.

Every year, the Pacific Southwest District of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod garners nominations for Educator of the Year from school staff. Out of 49 elementary schools in the district, two of the six selected 2019 Elementary Educator of the Year Finalists were from Salem, Mrs. Lisa Ellwein (Kindergarten) and Mrs. Shelly Surridge (3rd Grade).

"Knowing that I can have an impact on my students’ earthly future by helping them to love learning and their eternal future by sharing Jesus with them - that is what inspires me to have excellence in the classroom and be the best teacher I can be." -Lisa Ellwein, Kindergarden, Elementary Educator of the Year Finalist

We are thrilled to announce that Mrs. Shelly Surridge was selected as the 2019 Elementary Educator of the year. This is a tremendous honor for Mrs. Surridge, and Salem is beyond blessed to have both her and Mrs. Ellwein on staff.
