Salem kids minister to senior citizens

Students and the seniors at Town & Country

Students in Salem’s Club 56 ministry recently spent some time with residents of Town and Country Retirement Home.

There, they made yarn wrapped bottles.

Each student was paired up with a resident, and everyone had a great time! Kids and adults learned about each other as they worked together to glue the yarn on the bottles. Some students helped glue, some helped pick yarn, but all had a wonderful time with their new friends.

At one point in the day, we started singing songs. One of the residents who has been incapacitated by a stroke had not been responsive during our time there. But as the kids learned “You Are My Sunshine” and “How Much is That Doggie in the Window,” a smile spread across her face. Together we sang “Amazing Grace.” It was beautiful.

After the bottles were finished, the groups picked fresh cut flowers to put in them. One of the residents wanted the student to take the bottle home as a reminder of their time. The residents asked the children if they’d come back. Most definitely!
