Salem’s Junior High Ministry Exists To: - Reach out to students with the love of Christ - Teach students how to live out lives changed by His love - Serve people in the global community through His love - Celebrate with each other as a community because of His love
HOW WE DO THIS:
Junior High Night Junior High Night happens in the Salem gym the first Wednesday of every month from 7-8:30 p.m. through out the year. We invite 7th and 8th grade youth from Salem school, Salem church, and the community to join together for a night of wild and crazy fun all centered around Jesus Christ. The night contains large and small group games where kids get a chance to meet and interact with their peers, a time for drinks and snacks, and a time for Bible study. Our main goal is to provide a fun and safe atmosphere where kids can have to opportunity to hear the good news of Jesus Christ and grow in their faith.
Junior High Small Groups Junior High Small Groups meet the third Wednesday of the month in room C5 from 7-8:30 p.m. In our small groups, junior high students divide into smaller groups of five to eight people and talk about their lives, God’s Word, and how the two go hand in hand. Our main goal is to provide a fun atmosphere where students can grow in relationships while growing in their faith.
Sunday Morning Bible Study
Each Sunday, all the students from 5th – 12th grade meet in room C-5 for Bible study. We have a short opening activity and lesson and then break into smaller groups by grade level. The students from 9th – 12th grade lead the small groups for those students in 5th – 8th grade.
Confirmation Confirmation is an in-depth study for 8th graders of Biblical truths for ones daily life. We believe confirmation to be a lifelong process of maturing in the Christian faith. This process begins at baptism and continues until a person is called to celebrate with Jesus in heaven. Confirmation also includes a public ceremony on the 3rd Sunday of May, at which the confirmand personally reaffirms the vows made at his or her baptism.
In Confirmation Class We: 1. Communicate God’s Gospel of grace 2. Emphasize lifelong learning and Christian lifestyle 3. Focus on the Bible and Luther’s Small Catechism 4. Involve parents, mentors, youth, pastors and congregation 5. Emphasize relationships and faith, as well as knowledge 6. Stress the affirmation of Baptism as a lifelong process rather than a once-in-a-lifetime event
Confirmation for Salem school students is taught during the school day. Confirmation instruction for those students who do not attend Salem school is taught Sunday afternoon.
