Details of the Salem Lutheran Campus Redesign Plan
Salem Lutheran Church desires to redesign its campus at 6500 E. Santiago Canyon Road in Orange, a residentially zoned property of approximately six acres dedicated to worship and the education of children. The proposal includes a new 757-seat sanctuary with multipurpose administrative space, the relocation of the preschool to a new building on an adjacent property and the demolition of two aging buildings to create more parking spaces and improve traffic circulation. Here are some details:
Structural Changes
- Demolition of the existing chapel and pre-school buildings
- Addition of an approximately 11,147 sq ft. sanctuary
- Addition of approximately 12,934 sq. ft. of related church office space including meeting rooms, sacristy, choir rooms, music rooms, offices, etc. surrounding the sanctuary
- Renovation of the existing residence on the property adjacent to Salem to replace the current preschool
Traffic & Parking Improvements
- Increase Frank Lane to five lanes (two entrances, two exits and one for Frank Lane residents exclusively)
- Create a one-way loop drop-off system on site to improve traffic circulation and minimize backup
- Eliminate traffic congestion at the West end of Frank Lane
- Increase parking spaces to meet or exceed city requirements
Mitigation Measures
- Enhance landscaping with trees and drought-resistant plants
- Erect 8-10 foot sound barriers on certain property perimeters to keep ambient noise levels at or below desirable limits
